Rowing - The Faroese National Sport

The faroese rowingboat was build for fishing out on the open sea. Furthermore the people of the Faroese have used the rowingboat as their main transport between islands for centuries. Stories tell about women in labor or sick people being rowed from Suðuroy to Tórshavn.

Today the rowingboats are used as the Faroese National Sport and teams of 7 to 11 people row together almost everyday for 7 month to contest in the Faroese National Championships.
